Gold & Platinumsmith, Gem Setter
Specialty in hand fabrication
At Green Lake, Gary is our repair and restoration specialist. He says the best part of his job is seeing the smile on a customer’s face when he's restored an old piece of family jewelry to its original look, especially when the customer tells him they took their jewelry to another jeweler and were told it couldn’t be fixed. He loves a good challenge!
Gary started working with his hands learning to build stained glass windows in the ‘70s. As a co-owner of a local Seattle art-glass studio, he built hundreds of stained glass windows. A highlight of this period was creating large glass panels for an old theater in downtown Seattle, which were subsequently saved and moved to the Museum of History and Industry where they ended up being used in a display when the theater was demolished.
Gary married into a family that owned a wholesale jewelry manufacturing shop and decided to join the business, where he stayed for thirteen years. He found learning on the job to be a great opportunity, quickly picking up skills due to the large volume of all different types of jewelry work. He then went to work for a specialty retail jeweler in Bellevue, where he remained as manager for twelve years, caring for and restoring fine pieces—even a ring that Marilyn Monroe had owned!
